Creating a longer-lasting eyelash extension is not easy, but it is achievable with a good eyelash extension primer. But how does lash primer work and how do you use it?
Here’s all you need to know about lash extension primer and how to use it to help your lashes last longer!
How does eyelash extension primer work?
We all know that a better bond on lashes is a KEY to longer-lasting lash extension.
Lash primer helps in achieving faster attachment time by dissolving any natural oil or makeup residue on natural lashes, as well as balancing the pH level of natural lashes, resulting in a better bond between the extensions and the natural lashes, and, ultimately, longer retention.
What are the key benefits of using a lash primer?
- Less slippery lashes mean faster attachment
- Reduced application time means faster client turnover
- Remove oil, skincare products, and makeup to allow for better bonding and longer retention
- Especially effective on lash clients with oily skin
What if I don't use a lash extension primer?
If you don’t use a primer, what will happen is that when you try to attach lash extensions to not-so-clean natural lashes, the glue will stick to the oil or dirt particles instead of the surface of the natural lashes! Sadly, this will shorten the retention of your beautiful lash work quite dramatically.
What is a lash extension primer made of?
These are the main ingredients we believe every lash primer should have:
First, dimethyl ketone, commonly known as acetone, which does some pretty amazing stuff. It acts as an astringent, removing oil and dirt from the surface.
Second, polyethanol, which is commonly known as alcohol. Even though there is only a small amount in every primer, it can wash away the dirt and oil, helping you prep for the perfect foundation to begin your work. For sensitive clients, it can help soothe reactions too.
And last but not least, good old H2O, water.
How to use a lash extension primer?
- First, remove any make-up with an oil-free make-up remover or lash cleanser and water.
- Apply a small amount of eyelash extension primer on two disposable microfiber brushes for eyelash extensions.
- Place one brush beneath the lashes and the other on top as shown below.
- Gently glide the lash extension primer on the eyelashes, cleansing each lash thoroughly.
- Lashes should be completely dry before applying eyelash extensions.
What to watch out for when using a primer?
When one of the main ingredients, polyethanol, touches the skin, it may dry it out and cause a slight burning sensation.
Use proper application steps like the ones suggested above, and make sure Lash Primer doesn't come into direct contact with your client's skin.
